Four-star athlete Zakee Wheatley commits to Penn State

On Friday, class of 2021 four-star athlete Zakee Wheatley announced his commitment to Penn State. He was also considering Maryland, Michigan State, Northwestern, Pittsburgh, Vanderbilt, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

“They recruited me the hardest and showed the most love,” Wheatley said when asked why Penn State. “I built a great relationship with them and trust the coaches. I also love the academic options and the huge network of alumni.”

Wheatley was the fourth commit in 24 hours for head coach James Franklin. Wheatley spoke high on his few head coach.

“Great,” Wheatley said when asked what his relationship was like with coach Franklin. ”Me and coach Franklin FaceTimed weekly. He is super down to earth and I have a lot of respect for him. Great guy!”

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound athlete is the number one ranked athlete in Maryland and the 21st nationally. This is the 7th commit in the 2021 class for Penn State which has them ranked 14th in the country.
